About the Role:
This is a true working Division Manager role — combining hands-on electrical expertise with operational leadership and business growth responsibility.
You will spend approximately 60-70% of your time on the tools, undertaking installations, fault-finding, commissioning and technical work across residential, commercial, agricultural and industrial environments.
The remaining time will focus on:
- Overseeing day-to-day operations of the electrical division
- Developing and executing project plans
- Pricing and quoting work
- Creating and implementing sales and marketing strategies
- Hiring, training and mentoring staff
- Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to high-quality standards
- Monitoring financial performance and divisional growth
This role requires someone who enjoys ownership, accountability, and seeing their team succeed while driving operational excellence.
Core Responsibilities:
Hands-On Technical Work
- Complex installations, repairs and upgrades
- Fault finding across residential, commercial, agricultural & industrial system
- Testing and commissioning to AUS/NZ standards
- Servicing motors, generators, controls and PLC systems
- Emergency breakdown response and on-call services
- Solar installation knowledge advantageous (not essential)
- Exposure to dairy farms, mines, and heavy industry is advantageous
Division & Team Leadership
- Lead and manage daily operations of the electrical division
- Supervise electricians and apprentice
- Mentor and develop staff
- Oversee hiring and training of new team members
- Foster a high-performance, accountable team culture
- Maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
Operations, Sales & Project Management
- Price and quote projects accurately
- Develop and implement sales and marketing initiatives to maximise growth
- Liaise directly with clients and stakeholders
- Oversee invoicing and job documentation
- Ensure full compliance with NZ Electrical Regulations and Worksafe requirements
- Manage health & safety systems
- Monitor project progress and adjust resources as required
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to high quality standards
What’s Required:
- NZ Registered Electrician with current EWRB practising licence
- 5 – 10+ years’ experience across residential, commercial & industrial sectors
- Proven leadership or management experience
- Strong operational and project management skills
- Experience in pricing and quoting work
- Strong knowledge of NZ electrical codes and compliance
- PLC and low-voltage control experience is highly regarded
- First Aid and Site Safe/H&S certification preferred
- Full, clean NZ Class 1 driver’s licence
- Strong communication, customer service and problem-solving skills
- Physically capable of hands-on work
- Legal right to work in New Zealand
Working Environment:
This is a varied, fast-paced role servicing Reefton and the surrounding rural and industrial areas. Work may include farms, industrial plants, commercial buildings, mines and construction sites. On-call work and exposure to challenging conditions are part of the role.
