Description
About the Company:
Our client provides a variety of services, including excavation, site works, demolition, and cartage. With two locations across the South Island, they have built a strong reputation that extends from Canterbury to Central Otago, having been in operation for over 45 years.
The company has experienced significant growth, primarily through word of mouth, and has expanded its service offerings over the years. They are now recognised for their extensive range of work, high-quality equipment, commitment to excellence, and passion for their profession. Their philosophy is not to be the biggest, but to be the best.
About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced and skilled excavator operator within the New Zealand civil construction industry. This position requires the ability to safely and efficiently operate a digger weighing up to 5 tons. Responsibilities include cutting and filling, land contouring, trenching, site layout, foundations, and curb and channel work.
The operator must be capable of loading and unloading earth, rock, gravel, or other materials in a timely manner to assist with construction and maintenance tasks. Familiarity with pre- and post-operational checks and procedures is essential, including parking, shutting down and securing the equipment, refuelling, and performing daily maintenance checks.
In addition, you should be comfortable operating a Class 2 tip truck for transporting, loading, and unloading the excavator. Other duties may include general ground assistance, so a positive attitude and willingness to grab a shovel or broom to help out is important.
The role is expected to provide approximately 40-50 hours of work per week, operating from Monday to Friday, with some weekend work as needed. Shift hours may vary, so reliability and the ability to start early are essential.
What’s Required:
– Full Class 2 Licence (with WTR endorsement)
– Proven experience in transporting plant and equipment
– Proven experience operating excavators in civil environments
– A strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive, can-do attitude
– A flexible mindset, willing to assist with various operations and tasks
– Comfortable working on civil and residential sites across metro and regional areas
– A strong commitment to Health and Safety
