We’re recruiting alongside a  manufacturing business for an experienced Fitter / Fabricator to join their workshop team. This is a hands-on, long-term role focused on assembly, maintenance and overhaul of road tankers and related plant,  ideal for someone who enjoys variety, problem solving and being part of a practical team.
 
What you’ll be doing

  • Assemble and build new and modified road tankers and associated equipment, and respond to emergency breakdowns as required.
  • Carry out fabrication and installation of components, plus preventative maintenance, inspections and repairs to machines and plant.
  • Overhaul, upkeep and repair company vehicles and workshop machinery (truck, utes, forklift, lathes, milling machines, brake press, guillotine, welding machines, hydraulic and pneumatic testing rigs, etc.).
  • Fault finding, testing and removal/adjustment of fittings, fixtures and parts; determine cost‑effective solutions where specifications aren’t detailed.
  • Perform MIG/TIG welding for fabrication or repair where required.
  • Review and advise on engineering drawings and requirements; coordinate contractors and communicate effectively with management and stakeholders.
  • Actively promote and work to safe systems and Health & Safety practices.

Skills, experience & qualifications

  • Formal trade qualification in a relevant discipline and/or minimum 3 years’ experience as a fitter/turner, fitter/fabricator or similar.
  • Proven experience maintaining vehicles and plant equipment, and installing/overhauling pumps, gearboxes, valves, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Comfortable operating a wide range of workshop machines and tools; lathe/milling experience is desirable.
  • MIG/TIG welding experience and hydraulic/pneumatic test rig experience are highly regarded.
  • Good communicator, able to build effective working relationships with colleagues, suppliers and contractors.
  • HGV truck & trailer licence with DG conversion is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding ability and a systematic approach to problem solving.

Role details

  • Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm. 
  • Type: Long-term permanent opportunity.
  • Pay: $38-$40 per hour, with typical starting rate of $38 and a review after 3 months.
